The SCONUL groups both influence and undertake the strategic work of SCONUL. Representatives are drawn from the SCONUL membership and a call for new members tends to happen on an annual basis. You can discover more about the role of the groups here.
Content Strategy Group
The Content Strategy Group leads on SCONUL's campaign on the cost of content. Its work will help shape the future of publisher deals on the cost of journals and the development of the market for e-books, and in license conditions.
Organisational Development Strategy Group
The group is responsible for considering the needs of the community in relation to developing leadership skills and capacities, developing training needs, and advocacy with CILIP, library schools, Advance HE and other partners working in this area on behalf of the sector demand from members.
Technology and Markets Strategy Group
This group works closely with Jisc, OCLC and other stakeholders to develop and articulate a shared understanding of the development of library infrastructure based on member needs. It will also analyse and identify barriers to the adoption of new technologies for libraries, for example in relation to artificial intelligence (AI) and help develop clarity in relation to digital preservation.
Horizons Strategy Group
The group is looking specifically at long term trends for teaching and learning and research, and their implications for libraries. A major focus of this group’s work will be to support members in considering new models for service provision and identifying and developing resources for members to help them plan effectively for their future.
Statistics Steering Group
The group oversees the collection, analysis, dissemination and promotion of the statistical return.
Library Design Awards Steering Group
The awards celebrate out-standing examples of library design. The group undertake the call for submissions, shortlisting of applicants and selecting the winners of the award.
