In autumn 2024, SCONUL began undertaking a review of CPD across the academic library sector and held a number of focus groups to ascertain what training exists, what future skills are needed and where the gaps and barriers might exist. 

We have just published the initial report into our findings, written by library consultant and coach, Jo Walley, that looks to start a sector wide conversation on CPD.

The report examines:

• what training and development is currently on offer in our sector, including which are most popular
• gaps in the training offer
• barriers to training and development, at both institutional and personal levels
• ways in which such barriers could be mitigated.
